We’ve all been there. Your major competitor drops an impressive new product and everyone goes into panic mode. As a product marketer, you’re getting lit up by reps who need competitive messaging. But when you’re Meta, and Apple launches the Vision Pro Headset, that messaging needs to come directly from Mark Zuckerberg. Here’s a leaked copy of the email Mark sent his company following the Apple announcement. You’ll notice a few things: 1. He attempts to calm any concerns saying things like "there’s no magical solution our teams haven’t already explored” 2. He points out weaknesses, saying things like "you need a battery pack and a wire to use it" 3. He brings it back to Meta’s positioning saying "Our vision for the Metaverse is fundamentally social … our device is about being active … There’s a real philosophical difference."
